Moyra Dale has lived and worked with her family in the Middle East (particularly Egypt, Syria & Jordan) for over two decades. She was involved in teaching and teacher training, which led to a PhD looking at women’s Arabic literacy classes in Egypt (from La Trobe University in Australia). While continuing to work in education, she spent a few years attending a women’s programme in a Syrian Sunni mosque. That ethnographic research explored how Muslim women in the programme understood life and faith, God and the community, how they read the Qur’an and their ways of prayer. It was written up as a DTh with Melbourne School of Theology, through the Australian College of Theology. Moyra is now resident in Australia, and continuing to write, teach, train, and supervise students, in Islam and cross-cultural understanding, with a focus on Muslim women. She is adjunct faculty at Columbia International University.
